AfH-DC Design Review - Phase One
Last night members of REACH and Bethania Kids met with architects from Architecture for Humanity in Washington, DC to
review the designs for Phase One and also the dormitories for the children. It was incredible to see so much thought
perfectly articulated into sketches, 3D models and drawings. To see more click onto the Projects Page and then click
"Bethania Kids." I can only say geat things about AfH-DC.

New Projects Being Developed
Dear Friends,
We are excited to announce that Bethel Lutheran Church here in Winchester has donated $20,000 for
the construction of the Bethania Kids Children Center in India. We are are now organizing the first team of "Voluntourers"
to depart this December to start building. If you are interested in traveling abroad to help just go to our Voluntour
Page and sign up.
Multiple projects are being developed as I write. We are collaborating with ALL AS ONE
to build a school, homes for orphans and a hospital in Sierra Leone (Africa). Sierra Leone is slowly recovering from
a civil war that raged from 1991 to 2002 as a result of the diamond conflict. We are excited to learn that ARCHITECTS
WITHOUT BORDERS of Seattle, Washington will assist in the design of the entire complex.
Members of The Afghanistan
Orphanage Project (TAO PROJECT at
www.taoproject.org) who are former and active US military men and women who served in Afghanistan have orgainzed an effort to build the largest
orphange near Kabul. The Afghan children are highly susceptible to recruitment into the various terrorist groups
so by helping these kids today we actually will save lives around the world, especially Americans who are at
the highest risk.
We are now looking to identify more funding partners so we welcome you to join our effort
to aid the beneficiaries who are out doing such great work. If not you...then who?

Architects for Humanity-DC Presents Site Plan Options
It was a dark and stormy night....actually it was thundering quite loudly with bright flashes of lightning filling
the city scape of Washington, DC. Members of BETHANIA KIDS (BK) & REACH gathered with the ARCHITECTS
for HUMANITY-DC (AfH-DC) team to hear the proposed site layout plans for the Rajahmundry, India Orphanage or as
we like to call it "Children Center."
AfH-DC members organized the programmatic concepts into four parts:
Identity, Community Connection, Hierarchy of Space, and Economy & Efficiency. From there they presented 4 Layouts: Mandala
- A traditional Indian concept of path of access; Interlocking Courtyards - Buildings oriented around a common courtyard w/
both private and public spaces; Radial - Centralized courtyard with buildings in a radial pattern; Main Street - Buildings
laid out along a traditional path.
AfH-DC will now formalize the four site layouts into one scheme; incorporating
all of the best ideas. On July 15, 2008 the final site plan will be presented. To see the four concepts visit the project
click onto "Our Friends."
